Service area
TEC is one of the oldest of Minnesota's 47 electric distribution cooperatives. It was organized in 1936 by members, because investor-owned utilities and municipals would not supply power to rural customers in this area.
TEC provides electric energy to about 13,000 services in southeastern Minnesota and a portion of northeastern Iowa. The cooperative also provides electric service to eight municipal communities that distribute the energy to their community residents.
TEC distributes its electric energy through nearly 3,321 miles of power lines covering Winona, Fillmore, Houston, Mower and Olmsted counties in Minnesota, as well as parts of Allamakee, Howard, and Winneshiek counties in Iowa. Investments in electric facilities total over $63 million.
The nine municipals that TEC distributes electric energy to on a wholesale basis include:
- Whalan, MN
- Spring Grove, MN
- Peterson, MN
- Eitzen, MN
- Caledonia, MN
- Harmony, MN
- Mabel, MN
- Rushford, MN
- Lanesboro, MN
The cooperative headquarters is in Rushford, Minnesota. Outpost facilities are located in Caledonia, Harmony and Spring Valley. TEC maintains 24 hour, around-the-clock electric service. Crews are available to ensure quality service at all times. The cooperative is staffed by over 50 local employees dedicated to delivering quality services to its member consumers.
Dairyland Power Cooperative
TEC's wholesale electric power supplier is Dairyland Power Cooperative. Dairyland Power Cooperative based in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, provides the wholesale electrical requirements and other services for TEC and 24 other distribution cooperatives in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
