Frequently asked billing questions

Q. Is there another way for me to pay my bill other than by mail using the self-addressed return envelope that is included with my bill?

A. Yes, there are several other ways:

Q. What is the Basic Charge?

A. The cost associated with making electric service available to this location. Includes costs associated with investment in facilities, operation and maintenance of lines, billing and administrative services.

Q. What is a kWh?

A. A kWh stands for a kilowatt-hour and is the unit used to determine the cost of your electric bill. For example, a single 100-watt bulb will use up 1 kWh after 10 hours. If your kWh rate is $0.09, then the cost to run that 100 watt bulb for the ten hours would be $0.09.

Q. How does TEC arrive at my monthly kWh usage?

A. The current month's kWh usage is calculated by subtracting the previous month's meter reading from this month's meter reading.

Q: What is the PUCA listed on my monthly billing statement?

A: PUCA stands for Power & Utility Cost Adjustment.  The PUCA is a charge or credit that may be applied to your billing and is dependent on the Cooperative's wholesale power and utility costs associated with attaining the cooperative's financial guidelines.  Monthly adjustments in the PUCA will be reviewed with the Board of Directors to determine if an adjustment is required.
